Nissan has lived up to its claim to deliver the world’s first mass-produced affordable electric car, TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk says.
Commenting on the news that the carmaker’s electric car model will cost just £23,350 in the UK, the green car guide’s editor, Faye Sunderland says: “Its great news for UK consumers and also fantastic news for UK manufacturing that the LEAF will offer a practical and affordable way to access zero tailpipe emission driving.
“While initially the car’s sales will be supported by a generous government grant as well as other incentives like free parking and free charging-motorists need not fear that the financial rug will be pulled from under their feet. Electric cars like the LEAF will remain an affordable solution, even when the incentives are gone, as economies of scale will allow the price to reduce further while advancements in technology will reduce costs too.
“The Nissan LEAF is a truly a step into a new era, when inner city traffic pollution becomes consigned to the history books,” she concludes.
